Default Seed Swaps - Postage & SAE Info - IMPORTANT

just a note to say make sure your postage is right

have been to the post office to pick up some seeds from the seed swap and because the postage was wrong i had to pay the difference plus £1 handling fee

the problem was it was classed as a package not a letter an easy mistake to make and i didn't mind paying but thought it was worth mentioning

I know you're not the first to have had this happen greendean. Even some quite small seeds are 'lumpy' enough (techincal term!) to make a swap/gift into a 'large letter' or 'package', so it's really worth checking!

A jiffy bag equals a large letter stamp full stop. They are too thick to fit through the post office measuring gauge.

I send small seeds in an envelope and only big stuff like peas and beans in a jiffy bag.

Default SAE for seeds

SAE = Stamped self-addressed envelope.

If you are sending a Grape an SAE for them to return seeds - it is custom to:

a - put a stamped, self addressed envelope into another envelope that is then sent to the Grape. Not just a stamp, or just an envelope - but the whole thing that can just be sealed and dropped in the post.
b - put on the envelope that is due to come back to you what your grape name is and what you would like sent back to you.

If there are any problems, and your real name doesn't match your grape name, and you don't put on the envelope what is required - how is the grape to know what to put in the envelope, or who to PM to ask?

Luckily, so far, we've managed to trace grapes who haven't done the above; but if you want it back it really pays to assist the person who has generously offered you seeds!

Thanks in advance.
