  • Seed swap confusion

Hiya. I've gone and gotten a bit confused with the seed swap system. I can't find the link and I'm sure I've seen that it's been split up and shared between a few grapes now. I have flower seeds to put in but I want veg seeds to come out confused over what to do. Please help
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

After 4 stirling years handling everything, VC has hung up her badge.

    VSP future - Please read!
If you're a VSP enthusiast, sit down!

After some serious thought, I've decided to stop running the VSP.
I've run it for 4 years and it has grown from a carrier bag of seeds to 4 underbed storage boxes. It takes up more time (and house room) than I have to spare anymore.
Both the VSP & I have been available 24/7 for 4 years and its time for me to retire!

I cannot pass it on, lock stock and barrel to one person as it is so time-consuming. It wouldn't be fair.
My thoughts are to split it into smaller "packets" linked with the Seed Circles and there are some willing volunteers to run these. More information in due course.

In future, it is unlikely that you will be able to swap, say lettuces for tomatoes. Sorry and all that but I felt you should know now that the VSP, as an all-embracing seedstore will be closing.

I anticipate that there will be some here who will be unhappy about this - however, its my time and I've given it freely for 4 years - now, I want my freedom!

The VSP has been split into 3.
If you have flower seeds you can swap for anything that you can see in this list.
      http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...sts_91830.html

If you have tomatoes or chillies you can swap them for anything in the tomato or chilli thread.
      http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...sts_92072.html

If you have any squash or miscellaneous seeds you can swap them for anything that you find on this list.
      http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...sts_92073.html

It is no longer possible for example to swap flowers for chilli seeds or squash seeds for tomato seeds.

Please list the seeds that you have to swap in the request thread with a list of seeds that you would like in return from that particular parcel.

The VSP seed holders are now:
        Greenleaves http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...etc_92257.html

        sparrow100 http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...sts_92073.html

        Scarlet http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...sts_92072.html

        and Norfolkgrey http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...sts_91830.html

I think that's everyone, but if not someone will be along to correct the list.

So, how is this new seed swap system going..?

I'm very pleased with my swaps & I think I've made my final selection on which tomatoes I'm growing and hopefully saving seeds from.

I've had no requests so far. But then it's still early in the growing season and it's open for a bit longer.

I'm not sure it's dawned on everyone that these lists aren't open all year long anymore...

I'd echo your "get your skates on" comment, sparrow
In Ye Olde Days, when the VSP never closed, swaps would take place all year round but there were trends - eg start of squash sowing, there'd be a rush as people checked their own seeds and realised they wanted something they didn't have.....
So, check your seeds NOW and put your swaps in.................or it'll be too late

Would it not just be easier for peeps to swap their seeds using PM's? i.e. Some one could say I have such and such seeds which I would like to swap for such and such, if you have them and want what the other person is offering PM them? If that makes sense...

^^^ That relies on 2 people having something each other wants. The VSP gives you 100s of people's seeds to choose from.

I did my original wants post publicly so people could see how it works, but I don't think it really matters.

The problem now is that there are 4 VSP resources as opposed to just the 1 & lies in that whatever grapes request must have the same to return within that VSP resource. This could be a reason why the VSP's are quieter as it's maybe more convenient to go out & buy seeds.

With it being public it is more for Mods, Sparrow and I rather than to affect grapes as a whole. As far as my part of the VSP is concerned if anyone really is uncomfortable about it then pm, but I will just put a post on the thread to say a swap with so and so has happened. I want peeps to 'use' the VSP but at the same time I don't want anyone to 'abuse' it or any other swaps on the vine.

BM you might be right - but I think it also means that you need to be more organised (hahahahaha) - I have seeds to swap, but I've lost a box, so I need to find it and sort everything out to be able to swap like for like.

I think its a good idea, and if it works better for the 'owners' then great!
