  • 'Cobra' French Beans - can you help?

Our esteemed Sectretary at the Hill, Hadyn, says that because his family don't like French beans, he doesn't grow them (fair enough).

However, he had a handful of Cobra from a fellow allotment holder last year & - surprise! - he thought they were scrummy and would like to grow just a few this year - maybe a dozen or so.

The chap who he had them off has since given up his plot, so Hadyn asked me if I had any, what with having grown - err - a number of different bean varieties last year

Now I have a bean collection to be proud of (including heritage dwarf and climbing beans), but Cobra is one that I don't have - so if any kind grapes have any that I could swap for (or SAE, if you'd prefer), I would be jolly grateful and will be in with the Powers That Be big time.

Well, it would have been quicker actually but I let the dogs out for a wee, powdered my nose, got the seed box out and made a cup of tea first.

Hi Hazel. I've just googled them, and B&Q at Tamworth have got them listed @ £1-78 for70seeds. I KNOW we don't like paying for seeds(!!), but if you want to split a packet??

I was more astonished that Hadyn didn't grow french beans than the speed of the response of the good people of the Grapevine.

                    It's good here, innit?

I'm more confused by the fact that he says he doesn't like them except Cobra which are OK but not the best you can get

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I'd agree with you, Alison. I'll try to see if I can get him to grow a few Early Warwick or Triomphe de F'Arcy perhaps, then he'll know what great tasting beans are like!
