  • Spiced Courgette & Tomato Chutney

    Hey

I just found this recipe and I'm going to give it a go, but before I do what you think? Anything you would change or add?

    2 onions, chopped
    500g tomatoes, chopped
    500g courgettes, diced
    300ml white wine vinegar
2 Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
    250g brown sugar
    2 tsp mixed spice
    1 tbsp mustard seeds
    thumb-sized piece root ginger, grated
    4 garlic clove, crushed
    1 tsp chilli flakes

    what you think?

Well all i can say is this my scales are broken they only weigh up to 1400g so theres me thinking i only got 1400 grams of courgettes when i have 3500g+ of courgettes :O now i have more courgettes and nothing else :P.

Anyone everything chopped/diced/crushed/grated and time to have the real fun

P.S. hmmmmmm smells good on the simmer

Still simmering away still to runny, tastes amazing tho tbh i think it needs more heat/chilli to it if I'm being perfectly honesty.

Finished Think i overdone it slightly, didn't burn but not as chunky as one would of liked but the taste is amazing ill get some pictures up of it jarred.

Just to add i used 1 medium hot fresh chillies in this (without seed) instead of 1 tsp flakes and i would say there's not much heat to it so if you like your hot/spicy food be prepared to add more.

I made this around 6 weeks ago, i added a few chillies.

THat was the first time I ever made chutney, and it was fantastic.

I left it 'mature' for two weeks before tasting.

Next time I will add less sugar and more chillies!!!!!!!

ok, I made this again today,

Only this time I used less sugar and I put 6 ripe habaneros in there.

That should heat it up a bit!!!!

I will report back in 2 weeks....

Couldnt wait any longer - Tried it and it is real nice, but still no heat whatsoever!

Next time I will just throw 10 chopped habaneros in there, after it has simmered down!

is there perhaps not much heat in your chilli peppers? - or is your tongue now made of asbestos from eating too much chilli in the past?

You could do with one of Mikeys' Ghost Chillis.............

I just think it is because I simmered them down for 2 hours.

Yes ghost chillies would do the trick!!!!
