Default Pumpkin Pie

I have orders form Mrs D to post this she siad its the best yet.
and I have to make a nouther one
Ok so make your sweet crust pastry (add the secret ingredent)
I used 8 oz self raising flour
4oz stork block margarine (50g)
4oz sugar
pinch salt
secret ingredent is (a teaspoon or 2 of cinnamon)
for the filling
half a medum pumpkin sorry did not weigh it
chop it up microwave it for about 15 min on full, see if its soft if not do again till it is.
then mash it up or blend it, let it cool a bit
mix 1 cup sugar
about 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
about 1 teaspoon mixed spice
about 1 teaspoon ground ginger
4 eggs
tin of evaporated milk (the 410 tins not the small one the next one up)
whip it all togather
put the pastry in a big flan dish the bigger and deeper the better, part bake if you wish, I didn't, and cook for 45 to 60 min on 175c.
eat and enjoy

you didn't identify the pumpkin.
was it a 'carving' type or a culinary type?
recipe sounds great. My pumps & squashes are still curing in G'house but the urge to use one is getting stronger aas haloween gets neerer

I've grown some of the naked seeded ones tha the kidscan carve once I'vetaken the seed out plus we seem to get 'spontaneously germinating pumkin' in the compost heaps most years. these were also grown on & almost certainly of no culinary value.
Is ghost ride qute flavoursome? i know it's not too big. I think the vey big ones are pretty insipid.
despite the dreadful sub-aqua growing conditions I have managed a few decent specimens from most of my experimental winter squash plants.
Bon BON (japanese), potimarron (french), marina di chioggia ( italian & unbelievably ugly. which is why daughter made me grow it) & avalon (butternut) are all awaiting the taste trials later inthe season.
hope to report back when I've digested them . also grew some connecticut field for the lad incase others faied to deliver carvable sized fruit. suppose i should add it to the taste-athon.

ps 2 packs of

Yes the smaller they are the more tast they have. I personly will not grow the big ones I dont think there worth the space. dont get me wrong we love halloween its our new year
but I think I would rather eat them
but i did come home last night and say to Mrs D that Tesco have now got there pumpkings in the extra large ones are only 99p
tempting to buy 2 to carve even thow we have 11 pumpkins in the back garden and more down the plot, there for eating
we can cook them then frezee them
not decided yet
