Default Plum Jam

Is it just the same as the other jams?

I'd like to save some of my plums and jam them (for pressies etc)

I've never made preserves/jams before so am a complete novice!

Hi Shelley

This is the jam I make with plums, very nice it is too and easy to make...

plum, rum and raisin conserve

4lb plums
6oz raisins
10fl oz water (if needed)
1 1/2lb sugar
4oz blanched almonds, chopped
4 tablespoons dark rum

simmer plums & raisins until plums are soft, if plums are not very juicey add water
add sugar, stir until sugar dissolves. increase heat, boil rapidly until thicken, remove from heat, stir in almonds & rum.
ladle into hot clean jars.

I have a nice recipy for pickled plums too if youre interested.

Lou

Hi Kitty

Hope you enjoy this

1lb small plums
1/2 pint distilled white vinegar
8oz sugar
rind of 1/2 lemon small piece fresh root ginger bruised
4 whole cloves
1 cinnamon stick

wash and dry plums remove stalks. prick fruit all over and put in a pan with vinegar and sugar. tie lemon rind and spices in muslin and add to pan. heat gently, stirring until sugars dissolved then boil.reduce the heat and simmer very gently until fruit is tender but dont let the skins break, remover fruit with a perforated spoon and pack into warm jars, take out muslin and boil the remaining liquid rapidly for 5 mins, pour over plums seal jars, keep for a month before eating.

You'll find these great with meats or cheese.

Thanks Lou
My neighbour gave me a bag of victoria plums and I've still got jam and jelly from last year so I'll have a go at these today.

Hi Kitty

Have a go at some plum brandy to wash it all down with lol

1lb plums
12oz sugar
1 bottle of gin( dont ask me why gin makes brandy ...got no idea, but its a well tested recipy in this house lol)

Prick plums, add to gin and sugar, shake every day for first month, then once a week for next 2 months, remove plums and bottle up, you should get 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 bottles in return, and all just in time for xmas.

Lou

P.s you can add xmas spices to make it a spiced brandy if you wish, they are both equally drinkable.
