Default Abbey Crunch Biscuits

Here you go, Trousers....just for you!

Abbey Crunch Biscuits recipe as given to me by my big sister Helen.
Makes 36 low-guilt biscuits or 24 cookie sized greedy biscuits

5oz Butter or Marg (I use ALDI cheap-seats butter - only 10p more than Stork marg and makes baking taste loads better)
5oz Sugar (I use whatever's to hand - normally granulated)
1 tablespoon Milk
1 teaspoon Bicarb of Soda
1 teaspoon Golden Syrup
5oz SR Flour
4oz Rolled Oats (I use jumbo organic rolled oats from Holland and Barrett - I think that they are Mornflakes)
  1. Cream butter and sugar
  2. Mix in milk, soda and syrup
  3. Stir in flour and oats and mix well
  4. Roll into small balls and put on greased baking tray
  5. Cook for 25 mins on gas 2 till golden
  6. Cool on wire rack

Sound good Hazel. Will have to give them a try with the usual Earthbabe variation.

I am gonna make these in a moment....... I may have to make 36 low guilt ones. Are they still low guilt if you eat them all at once?

They 'don't count' if you eat them straight off the cooling rack.....or if they've broken, or if no one else sees you eating them!

Making these tomorrow - I often take biscuits to our choral society practices on Thursay evenings. Just to prove I'm retired - smug mode!
The thing about low guilt biscuits is that you can eat twice as many. It's the same priciple as light mayo - twice as much goes on!

This is a great recipie, Thanks for posting it.

I used soft brown sugar and added a heaped teaspoon of ground ginger and a handful of chopped crystaline ginger, the result was very VERY pleasing

Also added sultanas and cinammon and thinking about adding chopped up bits of apple....... Can see people starting to get fed up with being fed experiments although they're aren't bored of the chocolate brownie yet

Clare,
Trousers had to make them himself, as he couldn't prize me out of the greenhouses! But I'm here to tell you, they are GORGEOUS biscuits, and I think it's about time he made some more this weekend! (Incidentally, us Girlies were 'made' for Love Handles, so Go For It!)

Showed this thread to big sister Helen at the weekend (who gave me the recipe, if you recall - do try to keep up!) and she was very flattered 'gosh, have all those people cooked my biscuits...!'

So thank you for your kind comments, grapes, much appreciated!

Well Hazel,
you can add another two to that list for your sister.
Meself and Lauren are just off to make some.
