Here ya go can't get much better than this
    Very Chocolaty Brownies

    250g unsalted butter
200g dark chocolate (70% cocoa solids)
    80g cocoa powder
    65g plain flour
    1 tsp baking powder
    360g castor sugar
    4 lge eggs

    Lined 25cm square tin
    Oven 180C/350F/gas mark 4

Melt chocolate and butter together and mix until smooth.
In a separate bowl sieve together cocoa powder, flour, baking powder and sugar.
Add this to the chocolate mix and stir together well.
Beat the eggs and mix in till smooth.
Pour into tin and cook for 25mins till springy on top and still gooey inside.
Do not overcook; you do not want the skewer to come out clean.

Sorry it's not in Lbs and ozs . I'm sure there's a converter in one of your cook books.

I use Delia's recipe from her Xmas book.

Four Nut Chocolate Brownies - American - Recipes - from Delia Online

If you don't like nuts this one is Chocolate and Prune, though I've done that one with frozen black cherries instead and left out the almonds.

Have you tried Nigella's Rocky Road? Seriously chocolatety!!

It's like a chocolate biscuit cake - anyone remember the Blue Peter one they did years ago in the 60s? My Dad always made it for birthdays when I was much much younger, sigh!

            Sticky Chocolate Brownies.

            100g butter
            175g caster sugar
            75g muscavado sugar
            125g dark chocolate(I usually use a whole 150g bar)
            1tbs golden syrup.
            2 eggs
            1tsp vanilla extract
            100g plain flour
2tbs cocoa powder and 1/2 tsp baking powder.

Melt the butter, sugars, chocolate and syrup over a medium heat.
Allow to cool a little and beat in the eggs and vanilla.
Fold in the flour and pour into greased tin.(I use a stone and you don't have to grease...comes out easy)

Cook for about 25 mins at 180. until the top is slightly crispy and the sides come away from the pan....it's meant to be sticky inside so the knife test doesn't really work.

Thanks everyone! They all look really good. Am thinking of "tweaking" a recipe by swirling peanut butter through the mix! I really shouldn't be contemplating doing this as I know I'll end up eating most of 'em. I'll let you know how they go once I've come out of the chocolate-induced coma!

Just to warn you that the recipe I sent you can add extras but it seems to detract from the chocolateyness of it. I think it's a Jamie receep.

Heres one for the books. As we are all veg growers has anyone tried the beetroot brownies??

I have found recipe below by HFW

250g/10oz good, dark chocolate (70% cocoa solids), broken into pieces
250g/10oz unsalted butter, cut into cubes, plus more for greasing
                    250g/10oz caster sugar
                    3 free-range eggs
                    150g self-raising flour (we used wholemeal self-raising)
250g beetroot, boiled until tender, peeled and grated

                    1. Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas Mark 4. Grease a baking tin of approximately 20 x 30 x 3cm and line the bottom with baking parchment.

                    2. Break up the chocolate into pieces, cut the butter into cubes then mix them up a bit in a heatproof bowl. As the oven begins to warm up, put the bowl onto one of the shelves for a few minutes until the chocolate and butter starts to melt. Stir, and put back into the oven for a few more minutes to melt completely.

                    3. Whisk the eggs and sugar together in a bowl until combined, then beat in the melted chocolate and butter until smooth. Gently fold in the flour then the beetroot – be careful not to overmix or it will make the brownies tough.

                    4. Pour the mixture into the prepared tin and smooth over the top with a spatula. Bake for about 20 minutes. A knife or skewer pushed into the middle should come out with a few moist crumbs clinging to it. Don't be tempted to overcook them! Remove the tin from the oven and leave on wire rack to cool before cutting into squares.

This sounds tasty. But they sound very sweet can the amount of sugar be changed?

Also how long do they keep for (assuming you've not already eaten them! )?
