Default Turnip mash.

Very easy and a good way to use up my lovely turnips that are ready now.

Cut and peel potatoes , plus one or two turnips into small chunks.
Bring to the boil in a pan and gently boil until tender when fork tested.
Drain the water off and add a couple of decent size nobs of butter, some freshly milled black pepper, a pinch of salt or two, a splash of milk and then mash them well together.

Its a lovely turnipy flavored mash that works wonders as a sausage, mash and gravy accompaniment. Just need the runner beans to grow bigger now

Wren

Yes, I endorse the mashing with carrots.

If you make it with swede (or better still the harder type of turnip sold for stockfeed) in Orkney they call that 'Clapshot', and it is delicious! Makes an interesting topping for a cottage pie as well.

And it freezes really well. Good for storing a glut.

Default Italian Turnip and Rice Soup

Hi, Been doing some turnip recipe searching myself.

Here's a soup recipe I've found that sounds blooming lovely. Heat 2tbs. butter and 1 tbs. olive oil in saucepan and toss 1lb (sorry I'm not metric) peeled and diced turnips, cook until lightly browned. Add 3 pints chicken (or veg) stock and simmer covered for 10/15 mins. Add half a cup of arborio rice and again cook covered for 20 mins. Season, then garnish with chopped parsley and parm. cheese if wished.

Enjoy - I'm making it between typing!
