  • Working on the run

For the last 3 days we've been laying flagstones and gravel, adding gravelboards to the framework and then 'sewing' the weldmesh onto the frame. Himself made a support for the henhouse to raise it up and give a sheltered feeding area underneath. We have still to complete the job of attaching the weldmesh and stapling it at the bottom. I added a couple of stone chickens for effect - this is the story so far!

We will put a good layer of scratching material on the top of course, and the blue fish box (not sure if you can see it in the picture) will become a dust bath, although I'm sure they'll still make their own in my borders when out feee ranging! After a whole winter of planning it's starting to feel like we WILL have chickens!

Yes, got a pop-hole opener. After working for 2 days it stuck on open! The supplier has replaced it but we haven't installed it yet.

I'll be getting some hybrids - probably Rangers. It's getting exciting now!

Flum that looks wonderful. Can I ask where you got the angle iron stuff as that looks like a long-lasting and easy way to build a run.

Hi shirley - it was from EZRect. I think it'll come up if you google that. It was £69 for a pack of 10 x 3 metre lengths but we added a pack of nuts and bolts and of course, tax (it's mainly a wholesale supplier) and delivery - bumped it up to over £90. I was keen that it should look good though - it's visible from both neighbours' gardens.

I occasionally eat on the run - not quite the same thing though!
