    Vicious cockerel!!!!!

    I noticed blood down the front of my Faverolle cockerels plumage. On looking closer his comb is torn and bleeding (now scabbed over).

    Not knowing what had caused this I had a look around and noticed blood on the wire that seperates him and his flock from my Silver Sussex and his flock.
    What I think has happened is that the LS has grabbed his comb and tried to drag him through the wire.
    Its such a shame as the Fav is such a softy and the LS is a vicious git. I wouldn't get rid of him even though he has attacked me and dominates his harim with an iron fist. He is the largest ( And most colourful) of my cockerels.
    I certainly wouldn't breed from him because of his temperament, and although I know he has an attitude problem, I hand reared him from an egg so no further action will be taken.
    Hopefully the Fav will learn to stay away from the wire.

        Having fathered all my chicks so far this year, my LS cock then got into a terrible fight with the IG he shares an enclosure with. This time the IG won, and Rambo ended up looking like an extra from Zombie Flesh Eaters. I have had to separate him. He looks dreadful but now just about recovering (with a token hen for company).

        Hopefully your Faverolle will learn his lesson before getting too damaged.

          Snadge - could you put a solid barrier about 15 - 18" high along the wire between their pens? Should stop any more contact or damage.

            is there any way to stop him being so aggresive ?, im having a similar problem with mine, except im the one hes taking it out on, he regularly attacking me when i go into the run to feed them, he will have to go if he keeps it up, but dont want to get rid of him if i can solve it because he crows alot, and i like the sound of him crowing when im about the house.

                Sounds like we have a similar problem Seamus. I bought a landing net (fishermen will know what that is) and I catch mine in that now if I need to do anything in the run. I release him when I'm done. He gives me a wide berth for a few days after that. I was particularly surprised to be attacked whilst delivering treats. Kind of taking the pee, I thought.

                    Snadger, the SS cock I've hatched from bought eggs is only 5 weeks old and has had a go at me twice already. Got turned on his back and shaken last time and seems to have learned his lesson. Your namesake is very quietly boss cockeral, never fights but they all make way for him, but as soft as butter with me. Same breed, two totaly different tempers.

                    One of my others always 'kills my (very dirty) white trainers, obviously offended by my fashion sense Has never touched me or attacked any other shoes!

                    My little stroppy banty cockeral is keeping out of my way at the mo. He attacked my hand as I put in their food dish, and I just saw red for some reason, once too often probably, grabbed him by his legs (which I never do normally) turned him upside down and shook him. Since then he's been on best behaviour.

                    My big boys all come to their own names and like nothing better than to come and sit in the sun with me. Its funny when a bloomin great big cockeral tries to sit on your knee.
