I buy my eggs from the local market. Usually a tray for £4.00. Last week he said that eggs were slow coming so would I like 2 trays of battams for £4.00. They are beautiful and so much more economic.

Bantam eggs may be small, but they are very very tasty

When I used to have a banty, her eggs were quite popular, and peeps were always happy to have one or two of hers if they popped round to buy a dozen.

I was told that Bantam eggs, although smaller contain more nutrients than bigger hens eggs.(?)

My banty eggs weigh anbout 35-40g

Although small, I was rather surprised at the size of the yolk. I don't know if I'm wrong, but there seems to be less white- and a large yolk.
may be that I just need a new pair of specks of course!!!

how many eggs on a tray Bren??

I think you're right Nicos, mine seem to have less white and more yolk too. I think banties are great, for all sorts of reasons, and for cooking purposes I just double up - two bantie eggs for one hen egg. I do find there is a divide though between people wanting bantie eggs and not. Some people ask me specifically for them, and others say oh no I want the large ones (as though the bantam eggs are poisonous or something). Anyway I sell all sorts, colours and sizes so people can have what they want, most of the time!

If I break a hen egg and a bantie egg in a pan together I can barely see the difference in yolk size yet the bantie egg is half the size of a hen egg.

After having tried bantam eggs and come to the same conclusion that they are mainly yolk, I have come to the conclusion that I could quite fancy a few!
