  • update on carmen

    hi all

opened pop hole today and carmen full of beans, thank god. eating and drinking, picking heads of my pansies. this afternoon she laid a big jelly egg looking thing, i'm hoping that is the end of that and she will be okay. here's hope also for anyone who experiences same sort of thing, although unlike poor puff (shirleys chook) it wasn't meant to be, poor thing. xx

So glad carmen is ok angelat.
I lost one earlier this year to an internal broken egg and it was horrible to see. Rushed her to vet, but sadly too late.

Hmm, sure there were more replies to this earlier today. Glad to read Carmen is fine and dandy and hope she stays that way.

Glad she is ok. Sometimes chooks don't eat the oyster grit you put out for them, to give extra calcium and help to avoid shell-less eggs. Maybe a bit of limestone powder in with the food might help?

          Great news Angela.
I bought a large sack of oyster shell and grit when I got my chooks 6 months ago. They haven't touched a bit. So now I mix baked and ground eggshells to their pellets and limestone flour in porridge. Still get the occasional softie but not so often now.
