  • Sick Chicken - Help

One of our 4 girls has become very lethargic over the last few days, not eating, lost a huge amount of weight and has been violently sick twice.

She has no energy, and has to be put on her perch to roost.

Does anyone have any ideas to help.

    Thanks

    Andrew

Could she have eaten any poison of any kind?
Does the vomit smell? Or is it regurgitated food?

How old is she, has she been wormed, any Lice or mites present? Is her crop full, empty, squidgy? What colour is her poo? Often this can give you a clue to her symptoms.

Are any of the others having similar symptoms or is it just the one?
      Are they all laying eggs?

Sorry just a bunch of questions but the more info you give does help.

Her crop was all watery, but now empty, and her poo is a very thick whitey yellowey goo. They havent been wormed for a few months now either.

The other 3 are perfect, not a problem, they just free range the garden all day and leave the ill one alone.

I have been using Verm-x pellets.

Verm -x is a natural preventative. Not a registered wormer. Try to get flubenvet.

I've looked for a poo chart but can't find one that isn't from another site and I'm not sure if I can link it.
If it's yellow and foamy, the problem can be worms. It's surprising how quick they bounce back if you treat them. You can get flubenvet from your vets or local agricultural store. Don't wait to order on line. It will take too long to come.

                  What colour is her comb?

The poo sounds like worms, personally I'd isolate her and worm
                  The lot with flubernvet.

For ease you can buy a 10kg sack for around £10 delivered.

But it's bank hi day tomorrow and delivery takes a few days - she may need it sooner

                          Hi All,

I managed to get flubenvet on Tuesday eventually. The chicken in question has had a peck at the food with it in, but still isnt great. It is very thin and doesnt have much strength. I am going to forcefeed it for the next 24 hours to hopefully perk it up.

The question I have is how often to feed it and ow many doses of flubenvet?

                          Regards

                          Andrew

Slit a raisin with a sharp knife. Put a small pinch of flubenvet on the end of the knife and put inside the raisin. She should eat that.
                            # once a day for 7 days.

                              Ok I will try that.

I am just very concerned she will get too weak and die, the poor thing looks terrible.
