  • RIP Poppy

Had to have Poppy put to sleep today. She was an ex-batt with me since May 2008. When she arrived she was agoriaphobic at first and didn't want to explore the outside world. Once she found out what worms were though she loved the garden and used to wait beside pots so they could be lifted up for her to get the worms underneath. Her eggs were always a funny shape and the only person who would eat them was me, although she hadn't laid for some time now. Her breathing had been laboured this week with the hot weather and her poo was a funny colour. Vet said this was due to kidney failure and he also showed me that she had 2 tumours.
    RIP my beautiful Poppy.

Awww, how sad. My friend's lovely dog was put down Tuesday, she was called Poppy too, so I had to open your message!

How sad, but how nice to know that she had some happy years with you that she wouldn't have had if she'd stayed in her previous place.

My sympathies - I lost my favourite ex-Batt this week. She was from my first lot, November 2008. I love them all, but she was extra special. She hadn't laid for months, I knew her eggs, they were huge, and very rough, like they had been coated with sand. I always keep the big eggs for myself.

I love all my Hens, but there's sommat about the Batties!
