    One of my chicks is a negative........

    Let me explain.........I have seven chicks about one month old and one of the Light Sussex chicks appears to have the colours the wrong way round.
    It is specledy (like a cuckoo maran) with a white head! It should be white with a specledy head!

    It looks like a black and white negative print of a Light Sussex!

    It's also the only one thats roosting on a branch I put in the brooder for them!

    It's normal in LS for some to look like there colours are the wrong way, but not really dark with a white head. I think it may have been mixed up with the wrong eggs if it is in reverse.
    I can't stop laughing as it could only happen to you, having the only LS that is black.

        We've got two Suffolk Pied (or Pied Suffolk??)...anyway,their description is the opposite of a Sussex...pretty much what you've explained.
        That said neither have white heads...one is black with only slight speckles on her head & the other is silver...her head much lighter.
        Although they're old ones from when we first got them,I've got pics in my profile...under allotment.

            Brilliant. Post a photo, Snadger. I know what you mean about the negative, a black Lab who's just come in from the snow looks like a negative Dalmatian.
            Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

              Just think you can try and breed true and sell them
              pic's please....
