  • odd poo

hi all, today when letting out the girls i noticed that in amongst all the normal droppings (sometimes i wish for a more delicate hobby-all i seem to do is look and talk about poo or muck!) tere was a runny yellow one. Now i know that you do get the odd fizzy yellow one but this was yellow and then with a clear gooey bit (simialar to egg white) In fact i thought at first that it might be a smashed egg but absolutely no shell anywhere. What do you think

Might be a shell-less egg? The ex-batts do this and sometimes there's no membrane either. Only thing is they usually eat it as fast as possible so you rarely see them. Keep an eye open and make sure no one has constant yellow droppings. Look on Practical Poultry forum or Omlet as they have pictures of droppings!

I think it's probably as Suechooks said, it was an egg with no shell or membrane. Try adding a little limestone flour and /or Poultry Spice to their feed.

Chickens draw on their own calcium in their bones to make the egg shells if they're not getting enough in their diet. Ex-batts are prone to osteoporosis because of this so it's a good idea to give them a bit of a boost every so often
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there
