  • New run

Next door gave me some off cuts from his fencing. It's 3mm, pvc coated, weldmesh with 5mm rods for extra strength. The stuff weighs a ton

I'd like to see a fox get through that

And the chooks love the extra space (its half as long again as the other one).

That looks wonderful. Very safe safe from all and sundry. I peaked at your Blog PD, and noticed the impressive shot of the Sparrow Hawk. My cat had a run in with one a couple weeks ago. They are deadly, but would they be able to take a hen? My cat took several days to get back to his normal self. I suppose they would swoop and kill, so right to be concerned about them. I know I am!!

I have to admit I've been worried about the hawks on our lotties, but they don't seem to worry the cockerels who do get quite agitated if they perceive danger. They hate Magpies and Crows (and in Coco's case, helicopters - not good when your plot is near a helipad). They're not even happy about birds in flocks, but hawks, for some reason, are ignored.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

Impressive, you could add extensions and create your very own chook maze

The birds are loving it in there. I've just put a couple of trays of dusty soil in there for them. They had a dust bath, then kicked the stuff all over the place, then ate it

There's room to hang things from the top now so they have to jump for their greens

The name tells you a lot about the SPARROW hawk. It hunts thing which are sparrow sized, it's a lot smaller than an adult chook (probably weighs about half-a-pound). If you had small chicks outside too far from Mum, a sparrowhawk might take one, but anything larger, no way.

Magpies and crows are much more likely to have a go at livestock. Crows will feed 'on the ground' quite boldly, but a hawk on the ground is in perpetual fear of attack (quite possibly by a crow).
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
