Default Lavender araucanas

We have had our 2 lovely araucanas for a month now but no eggs so far , they seem very healthy and alert and doing all the things chickens love to do . They are approx 30 weeks old has anyone any clues as to why ?.

Many thanks

Hi p54jes (can I call you p54? ), many pure breed hens mature slower than hybrids so I wouldn't worry just yet, unless they are starting to crow! It's a funny time of the year for laying anyway, come the spring they'll be popping thm out like bullets I'm sure

My Lavender Araucana was over 9 months (officially)when she started to lay

She was bought on 10th May '07 as a 'four month old' - she laid her first egg on 24th October!

I think that being somewhat green I was 'fibbed' to and she was only 12-14 weeks old (three months) which would make her 8 months old when she started to lay but give her her due since October she has laid 41 eggs. So in 86 days she has laid on average every other day!

So basically give them another month or two, you should see eggs by Easter!

Thanks for the info , looking forward to our easter eggs. PS the good news is they have not started crowing yet either.

Watch for some extra feather growth around the face and muffles - Kiev put on a spurt of growth and a lot of feathers in the month before she started to lay.
