  • incubator help - can you hire them?

    Hi everyone,
I'd like to get an incubator & hatch some eggs. Born & raised on a farm we always had chickens (my mum still has them).
Anyway now a townie I'd like my children to see how its all done - last time I hatched chicks I was in my late teens (some 20 years ago!!!) so I'm a little rusty!. So where do I start?? I don't really want the full expense of buying everything new as we will probably only do it a couple of times so was wondering if it is possible to hire them? what about eggs where do I look for them? (my mum only has hens - her oldest is 11!!!!! ).
    Anyone have any help/advice?
I'm in Colchester Essex but happy to travel essex/suffolk (we also travel to Norfolk every few weeks)

Your local Smallholding group/society may hire them out, ours does. This of course is to members only though so you would need to join in order to hire one. You will obviously need to have a brooder box and heat lamp too though, as I'm sure you know.

Have a look on Ebay for an incubator...you may just find it's not that much more to buy one second hand than it is to hire one
As for eggs....I've found the best place to find people is to look at the @For Sale' boards in local feed shops.
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.xx
