  • Hybrid or Pure!

I going to be getting 6 hens in the not too distant future and wondered where others have gotten them from. I realise this is a world wide forum, but any recommendations based in Lincolnshire, UK of where to get hybrids.

I've been reading a few articles in various magazines and have now decided I'd like a couple of pure breeds and 4 hybrids, but I see that the pure breeds always say rare, or getting rare.

So my question, where can I get them from? Will I have to wait?

It rather depends on what pure breeds you choose...they certainly aren't all rare.

I can buy purebreeds or hybrids within 10 minutes of my house in London but I would need to choose from what the bloke has in on the day that I go.
    Pekins....easy to get.
    copper marans....not very common
My lovely Sumatran black....rare as hens teeth

What pure breeds are you looking for?

If you are new to chickens I would try not to get to obsessed about what you think you want. Check out a few places/people that sell chickens and don't be affraid to say no and walk away. Whilst many breeders and sellers are very good I have come across one or two right prats that just want to fleece people.

Check out some of the places listed Chicken and Live Poultry Suppliers in Lincolnshire in East Midlands of England Back Garden Chicken Keeping - Low Cost Living

      Hope this helps
