I was wondering how much people sell 1/2 dozen eggs for? I tend to give eggs away but now I have acquired more hens, now up to 7, they are getting through rather a lot of layers pellets, so I have started to sell their eggs again. I do this though a friend who also has chickens as I don't actually like selling to people I know. We both let our girls free range as much as possible but they do spend time in large runs. My eggs are a mixture of colours in varying sizes. My friend is now selling them for £1.40 which I feel is a bit steep. We do live in an affluent village and they are actually selling. Just wondered at what level other people price their eggs please?

I sometimes buy some off a friend for £1 for the half dozen but she only sells when she has an excess rather than any business model.

I sell mine for £1 for 6 and I think that's a pretty good deal. I have to use large or extra large boxes as my white star lays such whoppers, bless her! They are currently white or brown but adding to the flock at the beginning of the summer so should have some blues and greens then as well

Yes I had thought of £1 per box but that may be a little low as they are a pretty mixture of blue,dark brown,mid brown,pink and white. Like the white star eggs and attractive hens too.Gardening forever, housework whenever!Comment

We buy from a friend who has mixed varieties of hens. He charges us £1.60 a dozen mixed sizes.Comment

Consider how much supermarket organic free-range eggs sell for, then price your eggs a little under that. After all, they are not free to you, there's feed as you rightly point out, egg boxes if you have to buy them, accommodation for the birds, plus your time looking after them.
Also, size, as they say, matters. Maybe it's just me, but I find that what supermarkets call 'large' eggs, I would have considered medium or small when I kept hens, I guess that's because commercial producers don't keep the birds much past 2 or 3 years, which is just when they start to lay a good sized egg. if your eggs are a good size, then charge accordingly.
And if your eggs are a range of colours, they will probably sell better if you keep all the same colour together, rather than a rainbow mix in each box. I find people are funny like that.

I sell my chicken eggs for £1.20 for half dozen and duck eggs for £1.50 half dozen.

A lot depends on where you live. I sell 6 for £1. My niece gets £1.50. She lives in the country with no supermarkets close by. I have Lidl and Aldi nearby selling free range eggs for under £1.Last edited by frias; 07-05-2014, 12:53 PM.Comment

I pay 1.50 for 6 every week..seems reasonable to me as a buyer

Best I can get is a trailer load of 4"x4" blocks 8"-16" long to use in the log burner for 4 eggs
