Casper, our 2 yr old Isa Brown has been off-colour for a couple of weeks. She is now sitting around most of the time with her comb bent over to one side and eyelids often closed. Have checked for egg boundedness and this seems to not be the problem. When we picked her up to feel her crop she was sick; passing mainly water. The crop seems to be nearly empty. After being sick she will drink water and feed on layers mash unaided. Then she stretches her neck several times and twists it awkwardly to one side at the same time. After a few minutes when she bends forwards the water and mash flow out of her mouth and she starts drinking and feeding again to repeat the process all over again.
Does this sound like a compacted crop problem even though the crop feels nearly empty? We are a bit worried about lancing her crop to remove the contents as is suggested in some chicken care manuals as this may not be the problem and she may be too weak to survive such an operation.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
