  • Have taken chicks to allotment..........

But just realised six of them are just over a month old and tuther is just over 7 weeks old!
The oldest one should be ok and they all appear to be fully feathered.

I am going back to allotment after dark and will put them in the elevated coop if necessary.
Took them today, and although it took them half an hour to come down from the coop they made it eventually. Not so sure they will make it back though and I don't want them to spend the night on the run floor.........

Been back to the allotment this evening and even though all my other chooks a tucked up in bed these eejits are sitting outside in the run. They are white so stand out in the dark and would make a light snack for a fox or a meal for a rat!
Picked them all up and put them in the coop which is 4 foot from the ground with a ladder. Lashed up a bit of a cage around the pophole so they will have plenty of fresh air.
I'll probably sneak away from work at lunchtime tomorrow and let them out into the run. I've put there food and water in the coop for tonight!

It took my little chicks 3 or 4 nights to start putting themselves to bed, now they're always in before the big girls (and Jerry) next door even start thinking about bedtime They'll be fine soon Snadge

          Remeber my black rock snadger
Anyway as Maureen says took me four days to introduce 3 10 week old chicks into the same run and everynight i had to put them in the coop.
Moral of the story ,on day 5 my black rock had tucked the chicks up under her wing.
How sweet it was to see .They will soon get the hang of things and work things out Snadge.
