  • A happy day in Camp Chook

After all the nagging of OH about finding some new girl's after losing #1 & #2 in the last couple of weeks, I managed to find another battery rescue team as BHWT don't have a co-ord in our area still (it's been a year already )

Anyway, so glad of the advice I picked up from you guys and even more happier that it sank in. Sadly a few of the new girl's have lice, so have given them a thorough dusting with louse powder and hope and pray that gets rid of them. Failing that, it's gonna be a hand job which I didn't want to do just yet as I wanted to give them time to settle after a 2hr car journey.

So far the older girl's haven't too happy with the new arrivals and are kicking off something chronic, but one of the new girl's has been brave enough to stand up to them and get up close. The other 5 are just too chicken! Pardon the pun lol

Let's see how this all pans out shall we? I can feel the early wake up calls coming my way yet again.

I'm in agreement with you about the extra's, never seen them before so was kinda shocked (the lice that is). Having read about them from fellow grapes, and discovering them didn't send me into a panic as it possibly could of done.

They must of been there some time tho, as the poor girl I found them on was smaller than the rest and they are all very pale. Combs are floppy as you would expect but are virtually white compared to my girls.

OH was very amused yesterday afternoon, as the new girl's were placed directly in the house (I know i'm supposed to quarantine them 1st, but i don't have the space), the older one's had decided to go and investigate. There were a few scraps, but nothing major - but later in the day when the new girl's decided to venture outside it was very strange as they didn't cower away from the elder's, but seemed inclined to only go after the non ex-batts in the run!

OH thinks that the ex-batts must on congregated and had a bit of a chook discussion and decided not to take no flack from the out casts lol.

I will add some pics this afternoon so you can see just how lucky these lovely girl's are.

Things aren't going quite as planned, the 2 stopovers (aka Pinky and Perky) are being real for the want of a better words "b***hes", they just won't let up on the new girl's.

They will be hopefully be going to the new home on Friday (fingers crossed).

However for now I have had to seperate them, having split the run into 2 with some fruit netting for now. Seems to have done the job for the moment, but I feel bedtime is going to be fun again.

On a sad note, "Tiny" is not looking too good at all. Having a bare behind isn't doing her any favours and spraying her with purple spray seems to have only highlighted the delicate area to the others. They have attacked her vent to the point it started bleeding. Not to mention she's hunched up for the past 24 hours only drinking occasionally but definately not eaten. I'm gonna see how she goes tomorrow after having bathed and sudocreamed her vent.

Why does this always happen to the one's I get attached to? :'(

Because we all love the under-dog

Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I'm picking up my next batch of ex-batts on Saturday, so will be going through the same palaver.
