  • Greenhouse near chicken run

Hi all, I am a brand new lottie holder and very new to GYO. The plot that I have just been given is adjacent to a very large chicken run. It it almost the full length of my plot, which is fine, by the way! The rules of our allotment management mean that if I want to place a greenhouse, I have to do it along an internal boundary, not near the paths. This would mean it would be adjacent to the chicken run, and I'm a bit worried about the effect of it on the hens; I don't want them to get too hot. Has any of you found a problem with greenhouses? Does the double glass heat up the ground too much?
    Thanks all

    Sarah

Shouldn't be a problem - after all, the chooks won't be in the greenhouse.

As long as its firmly fixed so the wind can't shift it (as happened to someone on our lottie site) it will probably give the hens some wind shelter depending on the direction of the prevailing wind.

Plus, you could take out a couple of panes of glass and give the chickens access to the greenhouse in winter.

About as much as the windows in your house heat up your path....

I kept my girls in my greenhouse last winter. Have a look in "barking mad idea", I think I put some photos on there.

Was worried that as the whole thing is glass, the heat could be intensified! Magnifying glass effect!

But as they aren't in it - they'll get the wind chill factor!
