  • A Good Book

    Hi all

my partner has finally agreed to chickens on the plot

Could anyone recommend a good book on chicken keeping for beginners? Im not planning on getting them until next summer so I have lots of time to do lots of research

    thanks

I've heard many vouch for Katey Thears - starting with chickens.

Although to be honest, if you looked through the stickies on here you wouldn't go far wrong.
Look at housing, runs and ensuring their fox proof. Run size required etc.

Red mite, lice etc - there's a great sticky for those.

Feed, how much to give, advice on treats, and natural health stuff, like garlic and apple cider vinegar.
Look up suppliers in your area and see what birds they have to offer, don't jump at the first ones you see.

      I can recommend 2 books
Haynes chicken manual ( the complete step-by-step guide to keeping chickens )
Diseases of free range poultry by Victoria Robert.
I go back to them again & again.
