  • Fingers crossed for Marge

Was watering the garden and heard what sounding like a bukbuk bukawk but without the buk buk. Thought I was hearing things and then I heard it again a few more times.

Never having heard the strange crow before, I went investigating and found Marge struggling to breathe, mouth open and very watery eyes.

So I seperated her from the others and decided that I would see if she has something trapped in her airway. I hung her upside down holding her feet and massaged her crop (which was empty) but she was bringing up fluid.
She felt very light today, so don't know if she has been eating properly or not. Comb was bright red and she was still able to run around, didn't look ill apart from the coughing.

Anyway I left her to it for a while on the lawn (alone) where she still continued to look like she was taking deep breaths. Upon my return, she had her head on the ground eating some grass; only a little but at least she was nearer to the other girl's now (who were in the run) rather than half way up the garden.

So I placed her back in the run, as she clearly was trying to get in the door.
She went straight for the food, so i'm taking that as a good sign.

Have just been down to check on her and she's tucked up nicely in the house with the others, and her crop isn't full but it feels better than it did earlier. She doesn't seem to be gasping anymore, so fingers crossed she makes it through the night.

Could she have tried to eat a wasp or bee and been stung? Hope she's ok this morning.

Well I am well and trully puzzled. the only thing I can think of is that her head got dunked in the water trough

But she has made a full recovery which is a bonus, didn't want to lose another one yet.

I've not seen any bee's or wasp's about this week, but I wouldn't rule out anything with that lot, they do eat virtually everything thrown at them.
Why can't kid's be as simple as chooks?
