  • Festher's a daddy

When I checked the inci last night there was a tiny chip in one of the cream legbar eggs, and this morning I had a chick plus a couple of chipping eggs, so as soon as I got in tonight I abandoned OH (as you do) and hurtled upstairs to look again.
Well there were chicks, some sweet little stripey CLs...and a stonking great big black begger Its one of Festhers offspring, think its one of the cuckoo maran hens eggs, although it was hard to be sure with half a dozen chicks sat on it .
I'm seriously delighted as Festher came to me from Bephlam, and the hen from Lynda66, so 'chicken huge' is 100% grape
If I can get my camera or phone to talk to my computer I'll add some pics..but couldn't wait to post the news
    Heres Daddy

Well done Festher and Lynda's chook Woohoo, Grape-chick

If we're having a competition to "name that chick" I'll start by suggesting "Merlot" (well it IS a grape isn't it? )
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

one of my favourite tipples here is ribena wine! very fruity, very quick to ferment and can double up as aviation grade fuel if needs be!

sounds err useful? Oooo, think of the hangover. Mind you I am so not calling a chicken Ribena. Yet
Well here are a few starter pics

Keep the names coming, WONDERFUL idea, there are seven so far half'n'half black and blue grey, think two will be out of my welsummer hen's eggs though, she's at least three and is called Kitty, but commonly known as Mrs Hen. And as mum somehow hasn't got a name yet, one for her too.
The biggest black is Merlot (thanks Maureen) and the black and white is Shiraz (thanks Flummery). Now I've found out why the camera wasn't working I'll get some more in proper light. (it was because some idiot had dislodged the memory card when she took the battery out to charge.

                        Turkeys are UUUUUUUUUUUUUGLY!

Fester is as pretty as my Asbo (new name!) just hope he's more amenable!

Lovely chick pics. Pinotage is my fave wine, it's a red from the Cape area of South Africa, and is delish! Bit of a daft name for a chook though!

Not as daft as my favourite Cabernet Sauvignon I like the Kumala pinotage, sort of smokey.
Festher is nice natured, as long as you dont want to catch him. Loose he's great, held he's great. But that bit inbetween involves the skills of an expert rugby player And a landing net Unless he's in the coop when he just looks at me as if I'm the Spanish inquisition, until he spots the sultanas, then he sells his soul to the devil....me
