quick question my girls seem to have gone off eating the layer pellets that they always had.
is this because i,ve been giving them a hand full of mixed corn thrown into thier run on a morn as i,ve been collecting the eggs they used to eat them with no problems before

its the corn. dont give them corn in the morning as they will fill up on that and not the layers. give corn by all means, but do it in the afternoon when they have had the layers first.

think about it. someone offers you muesli for breakfast, or a chocolate filled croissant, which will your brain tell you to go for first!!!!! but which is actually better for you - thats it, the boring one!!

I used to really spoil my girls, now I just spoil them BUT - breakfast consists of mash with mixed veggies (whatever Ive got). The girls only get corn as a treat about tea time, but not too much. I always try and remember that the most important thing is their pellets.

Sorry BP - that argument just ain't gonna work. I don't think Muesli is better for you.

well, jennie has succesfully argued to me that chocolate is healthy. her theory is thus:-

chocolate comes from the bean or seed of a plant, therefore it must surely count as part of your five a day
chocolate (according to one manufacturer) contains a glass and a half of milk, therefore it also contains dairy
milk is also a source of protein, especially if it is encasing peanuts
cocoa butter (which makes up white chocolate) is rich in fats and oils
if you have chocolate covered hob nobs, you are getting fibre and carbohydrates

so there you have it. a balanced diet consists of a snickers bar, dairy milk bar, half a packet of hob nobs and a milky bar.............

            you cant argue with logic.............

i use the corn to handfeed them,to get them used to me pottering about, trouble is the oldest birds just see it as snack time now and make a racket(like a load of kids after some sweets),but they do lay each day,so no great problem....

just make sure the 'treats' are a tiny quantity, or hand-feed the pellets!
