Default eggs due to hatch

well, my first 6 eggs are due to hatch today. i am very excited but also very nervous. i don't think i was this nervous when i was having my kids!!! OH keeps telling me not to get so excited as none of them might hatch, i'll be so disappointed if none hatch, i would be happpy with just 1 chick. have to go and check the eggs now, nothing seems to be happening at the moment but i am told that sometimes it can take up to 25 days, today is day 21. i have my heat lamp and brooder box ready, i also have chick crumb. keep your fingers crossed for me!!

How exciting for you, but... don't count your chickens before they hatch eh

My Rhode Island Red eggs were unfortunately infertile. Never mind, another poultry auction tomorrow and I will try again. You are rather buying a pig in a poke with hatching eggs. I do hope yours do well!

Mine were due to hatch in 3 days time but Betty abandoned the eggs 2 days ago, they were stone cold when i found them. We cracked them open and out of the 6 2 had fully formed chicks in them. AM GUTTED!!!!

Broodies can be unreliable Topaz. Some just 'run out of brood' shortly before the eggs are due to hatch, and you NEVER get enough warning to put them in the incubator!
Don't give up too soon Milly. My daughter got some duck hatching eggs because her Muscovy duck was broody. Duck eggs should take about 28 days to hatch, but these all hatched after 33 days. Dawn is wondering whether the Muscovy broods at slightly lower temperatures, so it takes a bit longer, because Muscovy eggs need 35 days.
