  • Clematis growing over chicken run

Hi, I have a fixed chicken run with wire sides and wire roof, I'm growing three honeysuckles over it to provide shade, and I have started a clematis up it. Should I let this continue? The chickens can't get at it at all but the leaves will fall off from time to time all will fall completely come Autumn. I keep reading that other people have had clematis near chicken runs and had no issues but then I've also read it's quite toxic to pets so thought I'd check with the experts to see which is correct....

    Thanks in advance

    Chris

I have no idea if clematis is poisonous to chickens, but I seem to have heard somewhere that chickens know if something is bad for them and won't eat it. No idea how true that is either.

    Wow, I'm helpful tonight, aren't I!? LOL

Hi there, I've just moved your thread to where the chicken experts are more likely to see it.

Hmm..it does come into that toxic category.p doesn't it?

      Personally I'd avoid it.
What's the point of tempting fate?

      Your call though.

Having said that I have potentially toxic elderberries and briony growing in my run.
