  • Chuckingham Palace becomes Chuckingham Knox

Well I've been busy this last week (thanks to cheap paint from B&Q & lovely people on Freecycle). So I thought I'd "show off" my handiwork. All the inside of the shed-coop is now white, the insides of the nest boxes is black (nice and dark and cosy for egg laying), the perches are black (doesn't show the dirt too much) and the floor has lovely vinyl on it so it can all get washed down really quickly without too much scraping (she hopes!!). All the nest box lids have 2 hasp thingy's on so I can lock them properly at night. The only thing missing now is LAYDEES!!!!

I don't want to be difficult, but is there any risk that a gloss painted perch might be slippery?????

No Hilary, it's rough sawn wood and it's only got 1 coat of paint on it, plenty to grip on to, also it's square not round so that helps too

That's great! I gloss painted removable boards for my floor, so I could take them out to wash off. They're so easy to clean I should've glossed the whole inside like you have. When I get their permanent, secure run built, they can have a shed for a while so I con do their proper one thoroughly, like you have.

Well done, now go get some Laydees. In the meantime, if you need any eggs... I'm away next week, so DH won't be selling them at work - dunno what my Mum's gonna do with over 80 eggs in 7 days

Thanks G4, but I think you're just a little too far away for me to come and get some eggs I'll pinch some from my daughter, she's away next week too

Here's hoping that this out-foxes mr Fox Aunty Mo. Single coat of paint on the rough wood should also give the girls lotsa purchase Cannot wait to see the pic's of your new girls!

G4 and again perhaps make loads of custard?

G4 - Re: egg surplus - Make cakes and quiches and ask the local shop if they will sell them. I know you can't sell the eggs to the shop, but they may take home-made produce. Worth a try.
