Hi Guys

Last night I thought I lost one of my girls! she was lying in between the dog kennel bars that are about 8 inches wide. She must have tried to get in there and had got her wing stuck coming out and she also had her leg caught so she looked a bit mangled...Well after the initial panic we got her out and she could walk but kind of kept falling to one side, my husband checked her wings and legs and there were no broken bits. (i was a bit squemish!)Gave her plenty of corn and water and some poultry spice to help her she managed to jump up to her perch and then went to bed in her nest area. This morning she had got down and when I let her out she was walking as normal with the occassional stumble but 100% better than last night.

We think she was in shock as she must have been stuck for a few hours, reason for the post is I was wondering if there is anything I can give her to help with the stress or upset it has caused her? she is a strong little girl and had it have been one of the others I rekon they would have died!

She'll be all right. I had (and still have) a hen that was savaged by a stray dog. She gave a week sitting in the henhouse, eating nothing, just feeling sorry for herself. But bit by bit she came around and now she's fine.

I'm always amazed at how resilient chickens can be. Give her time and she'll come round. In a week, it'll be like nothing ever happened!

Rescue remedy is always handy to have around. A drop in the corner of the beak does no harm at all if you are ever concerned about their stress levels. Or, to avoid the obvious stress of handling if the chook isn't used to that, you can put it in the drinking water.

A little bit of bread spread with marmite is also good. I fed it to two girls last year after a fox mauling. Its all they would eat for a week
