    Morag, Pin Up Chick.

Someone complained to the RSPCA about the health of one of my chickens, so I went out to take photos of just how terrible these poor girls are.....

Brown ones left to right; Gladys the Wheaten Marans, Dorothy the Speckled Sussex, or Polly who's a Marsh Daisy cross.

We got Dorothy as an egg. She was a slightly spotted chick, and not very spotted at all when she got her feathers. But the spots increase with moults. I think she's as speckled as she's going to be. Very tame and incredibly nosy too.

            Spot

I had a speckled sussex, she was lovely "spot"....................... yes I know ) She was a big girl, always protected the banties. She adored rowan berries, my favourite image is of her "boinging" up into the trees to get them............bless

They look lovely Jules. How did you cope with all the water, were you flooded?

                      RH,

The back garden was under a couple of inches until very recently. We put the henhouse (which is in the back) up on breeze blocks. The chook garden, out the front was very muddy and the girls were paddling at several points. It does drain out there and we think this is because, over the years, about 7 tons of bark chippings have disappeared down into the earth. The DD and I picked them up every three or four days, washed their feet & legs and plastered them in vaseline to try and protect them. There are still a few with scale problems but they have more of a chance of recovering in the better weather.

They really are loving this drier weather though, so much happier if the eggs are anything to go by!

No I am still about although use another forum more regularly now as I do have problems getting onto this one, not sure what the issue is but I do have a rather ancient laptop .......... ?????

Good to see a lot of familiar names still about though!!!!

Not much changes chez Richmond, breeding season just getting going - I'm doing geese, turkeys and mainly Minorcas in the chicken dept this year. We haven't had the water you have had Jules but v v windy with damage to outbuildings. Fortunately chooks not blown away but lost young welsummer to the fox recently.
