  • Cat biscuits!

A few months ago our chickens were looking decidedly scruffy and bedraggled! Not any more. In the October issue (I think) of Grow Your Own was a tip in the chicken chapter about giving chickens cat biscuits. They contain extra protein which has helped with the "re-feathering" of our birds. They look sooooooo much better now and egg production is amazing. So far this month we have had 110 eggs from 7 birds - in May we had 99! The chickens prefer the biscuits soaked in water prior to feeding.

      Oooo! top tip! thank you,
My remaining two girls are looking their age (about eight and ten I think). They hardly lay at all now but still love their food.
I'll get some cat biccies in the morning....sounds like just the things to keep the old girls toastie!

Well... my cats eat the chicken food, so I suppose fair's fair . I've not given mine cat biscuits, just the leftover tinned cat food - I'll have to try the biccies now .

we have had 24 eggs in 6 days so far this month from 7 layers. The girls know when I have the cat biscuits for them as they all congregate at one end of the pen vying for the best position! They also get left-over bits of bread, cakes and veggies and fruit.
