  • Buff Orpington chicks.

Noticed today that our two Buff Orpingtons are looking very different. One has mega wing & tail feathers, whilst the other still has very compacted little wings & no sign as yet of any tail feathers.
They're about, nearly two weeks old...do you think this is an indication that we have a little girl....or more likely a cross breed?
I really really want(would like!)for at least one to be a little girlie!!!

Sounds like it Di I hope so anyway. Aren't they cute when their feathers start popping through
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

The chap who sold us the eggs said they are really tricky to sex,but I'd have thought feather differences are hopefully an indicator?
The one with compacted wings is particularly sweet!I'll try to remember the camera tomorrow.
Dandelion & Marigold have been letting them eat out of Andi's hands!...I'm a bit too much of a wuss though...when they're getting feed for their babies they're a heck of a lot rougher with their pecking than normal!

Some say cocks feather up later than hens, although with Welsummers (my main LF flock) the cocks feather up first. I can sex them at 3 - 4 weeks. It's dependent on the breed. I've never had Orpingtons so can't say. I still go by comb development - cocks' combs almost always come through first, and leg length/foot size. Is there a chance one might not be pure bred, or were they sold as pure breed eggs?

          Oh drat and double drat!

I think that means I might have one of each too then.
One is fatter/fluffier than the other and a smaller comb!

          Your thoughts are very welcome.

I thought the one on the right had a very unusual comb. Then I realised it was the wallpaper.

I never noticed that until you said, gave me a chuckle when I went back to check.
