  • Brainless chook!?

I know chooks are weird and wonderful all rolled into one, but Red is being a right pain lately.

How on earth do you tell a chook that a nest box isn't a dust bath??

For days, maybe even weeks... once all the girl's have done their laying for the day, you can guarantee that Red will be there ready and waiting to pounce.
Off she goes into the nest area, makes it look like she's gonna lay and then you get the "knock knock knock" on the side walls and floor from where she is just having the time of her life bathing in the nest box.

I'm surprised that she hasn't done it whilst there has still been an egg in there. Scrambled egg anyone?

Has she got access to a dust bath anyway? Maybe she's got mites/lice and is itchy? (sorry had to ask). Failing at, maybe she's just daft - there are plenty of them about ;-)

They have access to 2 bath's, one of which they dug themselves and a large litter tray filled with play sand.

We did have a mite and lice infestation a few days ago, but i'm struggling to find any now - good sign in my books.

Maybe she's just gonna be the eccentric one of the bunch, but i'm sure the others will bring about their querky little ways soon enough.
