  • Beak House Knitting Circle

Day 2 in Beak House and the girls are having a good natter. Everyone has a full crop, they spurned Mum's offer of chopped grapes and chick-weed but scoffed layers pellets like they were going out of fashion. They seem to be settling down really well.

For those who haven't seen the other thread, they are, Ruby, Garnet, Topaz and Amber.

Oh Flum they are so beautifull, I wish I could have chickens, but too many cats around not even counting my 5 also could not afford any more pets!

They are Meadowsweet Rangers - the usual cross of RIR with summat else I think. They are only humble hybrids but I also love the Little Red Hen types.

It sort of ran on into the 'Working on the Run' thread. Thought I'd better start them their own.

                Great pic Auntie Flum!

                Which is which?

I only ask, as today I put rings on those I could catch, in case I need to identify any. Out of the 8 browns I know 4 individually (was 5 but one moulted and now looks the same as another) and of the 8 white ones I only know 3 (two others are identical, two others are very similar apart from one has soft feathers the other hard!)

Day 3 - Gosh I'm sounding like Time Team! They are coming out tomorrow Maureen. They have settled down really well, don't seem stressed at all, and Garnet (I can nearly tell them apart!) let me stroke her kneck this morning!

The 2 dark ones are Ruby and Garnet and the 2 paler, more gingery ones are Topaz and Amber. So at the moment I can usually tell it's one of 2! Once they come out and develop their own personalities (and aren't heaped up together in a feathery ball!) I should be able to tell.
