  • Am I right in thinking...?

This is #1 that had the bleeding from her vent a few days ago. Having kept an eye on her, it seems that her vent isn't looking too good at all.

I've just fetched her in from the house as I don't know if the others have had a go at her, from what i've seen they don't seem to bothered about her.

She has been well in herself, bright red comb eating and drinking.
Am guessing she's not laid an egg in a couple of days, but then i'm not expecting her to with a vent looking like this. Bless her x

    Your thoughts please?
Would hate to lose another one so close to #2

Poo looks fine, she's just done one on me laminate

Not a prolapse expert but if there's innards protruding it seems likely. I believe the Rescue groups recommend haemorrhoid cream to help put it back. You could take her off layers pellets and give her corn to stop her from laying for a while to help it heal. I don't think the prognosis is very promising though (sorry ) however if she was mine I would give her a chance as some only do it once and are ok.

I can't be sure that it is the inside's tho, when I was washing her backside I was able to hold it up as if it was the top flap of her vent. Certainly looks painful tho.

She's not too bothered by it, but when she noticed it when she was pruning her feathers around it she started having a peck at it.
When I picked up her poo from the floor, I noticed that there was some clear liquid that looked like it had dropped from her behind also (not at the same time as the poop), so it could be possible that is it weeping.

Bless her, she's currently nestled down on the towel I used to dry her with. Think it's past her bedtime x Awww

sounds like a trip to the vet is in order. best to get it seen to and sorted than to second guess it, and get that guess wrong

Yeah, even I'd take her to the vet. It certainly looks like a prolapse, but I'm no expert...and hope never to become one.

Good luck...and let us know how the poor wee thing gets on!
I love to talk about nothing. It's the only thing I know anything about!!

I'm no expert either but it does look like a prolapse....I kept my hen who looked like this in the dark and quiet, on corn for a few days (very small rations). She stopped laying, stopped bleeding and now looks fine.......

Sadly after trying to clean her up as much as possible, I still couldn't get the area sanitary enough to push back inside her.

After much deliberation and research, she was sadly culled to preserve her dignity. Sounds cruel I know, i'd rather not have it get infected and kill her that way. RIP #1

Looks like a partial prolapse to me. Sorry to hear you decided to cull her but it was probably the right decision. It looked only a small one but unfortunately once they start prolapsing they almost certainly will do it again. If you don't cull to start with you end up culling later, as it gets worse with time.

Sorry to hear that Sheena but I'm sure you've made the right decision.
