I think we are all gutted. This must have been one the most watched grapes. (Is that the right term?)

She seems fine Maureen, that's the worrying thing!

I don't know................ but I imagine a chook has similar feelings a woman must have who's had a miscarriage?

What if all eggs are dud and she still sit's.......what do I do next?

I will try gently shaking a few more eggs tomorrow and a couple the day after.

I would still rather they didn't hatch at all, as die a few days or hours after birth. spose! That would be really heart rendering!

i think from memory you just leave the eggs under her and she should realise that theres no babies and come off by herself, if she doesn't give up, i would say remove the eggs, and i reckon you need to go for the usual tricks to stop her, cos sitting for 2 months continually can't be good for her,(ie getting more eggs) then hopefully next time she goes broody then she will be all healthy

I agree with leaving the eggs as they are, she will give up by herself and be satisfied that she tried.

The trouble is I've heard horror stories of eggs exploding if they are left!

IF all the eggs are duds (and I really hope they aren't) then I think I'd be inclined to get on to the person you bought them from and tell them. You never know, they might just offer you some replacement eggs for the next time one of them gets broody? Especially if there's no sign of any embryos in any of the eggs

You've been reading the same sites as me. I have 18 eggs in the incubator which is just across the hall from my bedroom and if one explodes there is going to be a need for clean linen.
She should be fine if they have lasted this long. My eggs were from ebay as well so fingers crossed.
If your really worried take them away tomorrow and put it down to experience, not every egg can be fertile or chickens would rule the world (if they already don't hmmm).

maybe next time, it would be worth getting say 3 eggs each off 2 sellers (not putting all eggs in one basket so to speak ..... but then they could still hatch yet .....if we all wish really hard ..... i dunno about the exploding bit, but i'm sure another week will be ok

You could 'candle' them? The ones which are left, I mean. Hold the eggs up to a light so you can kind of see through them, you're supposed to be able to see if there's a chick in them after a certain number of days incubation.
Sorry about the 2 duds you've found today Snadger I really hope you get a few which hatch. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
And if they should end up all being bad, you should let the eBay seller know, and put a follow-up on the feedback so that other buyers know.
For a better chance, it might be worth finding someone a bit more local to get a clutch of eggs from next time - perhaps the postal system doesn't agree with them?

They only come in 6, 12 and 18 batch lots!

Type in 'hatching eggs' on eBay and have a look Lynda!

Like the idea of finding local sellers........then if they don't hatch I can always throw them at his/her front door!

or find someone selling six of each egg and ask for 3 of each, or if someones selling six you could pay the same but ask for only 3.

3 Ixworth & 3 Lavender Aracuna Hatching Eggs on eBay, also, Poultry Hatching Incubation, Pet Supplies, Home Garden (end time 08-Oct-08 20:30:00 BST)

3 each of 2 different breeds same seller yeah i never thought of that ...... i'm having a real problem getting ducks in my area ..... ie anywhere near manchester it's doing my head in, but heres a thought if theres any farms nearby that might have day old chicks, you could shove them in her nest while she's out, and she'll just think flippin heck, they hatched quick

was actually thinking the other day, if chooks don't lay as much in winter, maybe spring eggs would be more fertile, as mr cock will be full of the joys of spring???

Well done Lynda..........you managed to find one out of four thousand who sells smaller amounts! Lol

Someone at the lottie mentioned the sneaking the chicks under her so it's not that far fetched but not to my fancy.
