I've often thought this about ex-bats. Perhaps someone should set up a chain, whereby someone collects them, takes their own when they get home and passes the rest on to the next person who does the same. Wonder if it would be too complex to set up, or would unduly stress the birds. Probably couldn't cover the whole country, but could certainly spread the rescue effort over a larger area.

They could get a lorry and just drop them off in a round trip to all who want some. Divide the cost by the number of birds dropped off and charge per head. They'd probably save many more than they do.

I would have loved some ex-batts but having no transport put the mockers on the idea.

Even if something local could be sorted out, like get a bulk lot for a town chicken club or something, it would make a big difference.

If I could, I would... but I simply can't! BUT.....

The neighbour who was on my hitlist has decided she wants some now, so I might be able to get her some when she's finished putting up her coop and run.

GREAT news about the Neighbour!

I got my 8 White ones from Little Hen Rescue the Saturday before Christmas - all still going strong! GO ON - you know you want to! I started with eight, and now have twenty!

I can't have any more at the mo - look out for new thread (not posted it yet) to see why!

My OH is adamant about no more...... but the breeder down the road sells fertilised eggs and takes the boys off your hands..... thinking about trying this later in the year ...shhhhh don't tel Mrs RT

Read this on internet yesterday they are in a sorry state, if i had land i'd have some but only small garden, not that i eat eggs or use them, anyway top of my list is a goat, love them things.

They do have co-ordinators around the place where you can collect from - I don't know how much of the country they cover. You'd find out from their website.

Ok, Lynda. We'll do a two person chain. If there's a collection point near enough to me, I'll take a couple for myself and bring some on to you. I just looked at the web-site and couldn't see any information about where they could be collected from.

I WILL be rescuing more girls, when - I don't know yet, but probably not too far in the future. If there's a co-ordinator near(ish) to me, they can put me down for 8
