Default winter onions

hello,
can anybody tell me if i can pull up winter japense onions now,coz somebody told me you have to wait till the green storks go brown which is about july time,do i really have to wait that long they have been in since august 2007,
they are swelling out the ground now.

If you want an onion, you pull one mate, no point in going and buying them while you have them sitting in the ground, dont pull them all let them keep growing then when the tops start going over you will have some to store.
