    winter cherry

    Ok so at the weekend i lived up to my name (i think)!
    At the local garden centre, we went for a sunday afternoon drive and ended up there! I got a bargain of a plant 29pence a winter cherry on the pot it says that it may be harmful would that be the fruit as well as the leaf sap, there were quite a few berries/fruits on it and what do i do with it apart from put itwith the rest of my bargains

    That was a bargain Bargainhunter. I had one in my last garden and don't think it's any more harmful than anything else but I wouldn't let children eat the fruits, although the birds love them. They can grow up to 7M so be careful where you plant it.

        ok i have found the label
        is called SOLANUM (broom beauty)
        its about 7ins tall and a bushy 8ins wide
        all help appreciated can i eat the fruits

            NO!!!

            Nearly all members of the Solanum family are poisonous - it included deadly nightshade, as well as potatoes (poisonous fruit and foliage) and tomatoes (edible fruit, not sure about foliage - though it smells nice!).

              Tomato foliage is poisonous too.
