  • Will my marigold plants survive until spring if protected?

    Afternoon all,

Whilst helping my family doing the gardening chores I came across various small marigold plants that grew from seed next to the original parent plant and so I decided to pot them up (they are between 1-3 weeks old). I know they make good companion plants so I was wondering if these have any chance of surviving until next spring if I protect them in a cold frame?

    Thanks for your advice,

    Samuel

I had some that self seeded on my plot that I let grow. They are just turning to seed now, so I have my doubts yours wouldn't run to seed at some stage.

But I gather they re-seed themselves really easily so you could just harvest some seed and plant it up...

what type of marigold? I have pot marigold (souci) all over my garden . Some of the greenery seems to survive even cold winters if its tucked in under somewhere but mainly it just reseeds itself. If you've got the plants just try it...they have two chances.....

Good question, I was going to ask one similar! If they are companion plants then I'm not sure mine are doing a very good job. I planted them in spring and they are only coming into their stride now! Everything they should have been accompanying to be a companion too is practically over!! So mine are rubbish companions !

You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

I'm an official nutter - an official 'cropper' of a nutter! I am sooooo pleased to be a cropper! Hurrah!

They have a chance but not much of one, they can't take much cold. You're better off saving some seed from the parent plants and starting it off on a windowsill in March. It does grow really easily.

Would a cold frame give them a chance?
