  • What would you do first?

I seem to be pottering around the garden lately and rather than getting one thing done I'm going from one to the other! So firstly do I:

Empty the greenhouse, put a floor down, put benches back in, put other panes of glass in, clear ground area of weeds

Clear brambles from around the side and back of greenhouse

Dig small bed area ready for planting

Clear shed so I can put gardening tools in there (on kitchen floor at the moment!), or the tools could go into the finishes greenhouse

Dig lawn and seed it now so it's ready for summer

Any ideas? What would you do first? They're all fairly big jobs. I'm leaning towards sorting the greenhouse first though so then I have somewhere for the tools and I can start sowing a few seeds, then whilst they're growing I can dig the beds out and let Mr G sort the lawn.

    Thanks
    Rachel

Greenhouse first I think, as you said you can get some seeds going.

          LOL at Flummery!! Nice one!

In my opinion you should start exactly the way you've written it. If you think about it - you've unconciously written the thread in a perfect list. It just hard to get motivated to start but its worth it when you do....then you dont want to stop.
Keep us posted on how you get on. Why not take pics of before and after like I do. In 6 months your plot will be unrecognisable!

I agree, I think you've subconciously written the list in the order you want to do it

I'd be tempted to spray the annoying patches of brambles in the meantime too, and any other patches of difficult weeds. But I know a lot of peeps don't like to do that.

Thanks all! Trouble when you're trying to sort yourself out it gets a bit confusing so nice to have someone say that that's how they'd do it as well

I do have some pics on my blog, but will take more of the greenhouse. Would love to look out of the bedroom window and see a lovely finished greenhouse! Also if I start getting on then it'll motivate Mr G to help me...especially when it comes to moving the heavy things

I would potter, doing the greenhouse and clearing the brambles (so I didn't get too sore from doing just one job). clearing brambles is one of my fave jobs as it doesn't wear me out too badly but I can really see a result

                  Good luck with it all.

I would go out this morning and do something but I have no-where safe to put my youngest and I have the housework to do...blergh!

It is very satisfying pulling a long shoot out and chopping it up...muhahahahah!

                        Hi Gryfon
Sounds a bit like my garden, lol!
Started last year got two raise beds done for the veg, cleared an area for the patio had lifted slabs from thefront garden, then bad weather stopped play over the winter so both the front and back were a mess!
Although i have along list of need to do jobs decided to finish what i started last year so front is nearly ready for planting now and patio is down, next jobs third raised bed, new fence(fence has been down now three years thankfully i have an understanding neighbour) path along front of veg beds, move clothes pole then clear area for lawn, paths and flower beds!!
Wanders how much I will get done this year!?!

We tend to have the problem that we'll clear one bit, then start on another and the first bit fills up with stuff and weeds and then we'll move on so it's a vicious circle! Hoping this year there will be no worries will illness, back problems etc so we can keep on top of it all!

Small girl is 22 months. It's also raining on and off which doesn't help. Oh and if I don't do the housework we'll end up with nothing to eat off, nothing to wear and no way to walk around the house without stepping on something

To end the cycle, clear a small bit and plant something in it. That way you just have to weed now and again (and you want to coz you got stuff growing). I usually manage to get a crop from at least one bed even when I get a bad spell of health.

Housework - bummer - remember that stage - sweep it all behind the sofa Buggy in the greenhouse is safe (strap child down well) Do the minimum housework necessary to allow gardening time

Housework is for rainy days only! Unfortunately it is tipping it down here in Cornwall, so it looks like I've no excuse. B*gger it - I wanted to get another bed dug out on my new lottie!
