  • What Can i grow next ?

Due to my duplicate post i am having to make a fresh start so here goes, i hope anyone who posted will be kind enough to re post.

I have planted most of my garden now, i have put in,

    Purple radish
    Purple carrot
    Normal carrot
    Spring onions
    Pak choi
    Beetroot
    Peas
    Tomatoes
    Spuds
    Swedes
    cabbage (chinese and ordinary)
    Radish
more spring onions, peas and carrots !
    Lettuce
    Spinach
    Leeks
    Japanese onions
    brocoli.

Now does any one have any suggestions as to what i am able to put in now or in the near future as i have some ground left i dont like to see empty, and i do not have a clue what i can do with it.

I have an area 4m x8m that is almost ready to plant, lovely soil, just needs a quick dig over.
And an area 6m x 8m that has not been used for a few years, now grass, (dying as the previous owner sprayed it off)) so unsure what that will be like, i was going to leave it for spuds next year but if i am able to use it soon even better.

I had one reply to the old thread suggesting garlic, so looking into that this morning, love garlic but no idea how to go about growing it yet.

    Regards, Rob.

Looks as if you have a pretty good selection there already Rob - I don't know what to add - in fact, I might take a few ideas from you!

Thanks, but to be honest i have no idea what i am doing !

I just found seeds of things i like and what could be planted now, and put them in, not sure how well it will all do, most of it is up and growing now, but time will tell, have found it is very addictive though.

Looking forward to getting my proper allotment soon.

      Rob.

Hi, i planted them about 3 weeks ago, but not from seed, they were plants a local was going to throw away so i re-homed them, they seem to be a but behind the others i have seen, they range from 12" to 2' tall, only see one tomato on them, but quite a few have flowers.

I am feeding them once a week with toimato feed, hope they make it, what do you think ?

          Rob.

Ps, i have noticed some people take leaves off the main plant, i guess this is to make the plant put more energy into fruit than leaves, how do i go about this, what leaves should i take off ?

If we now get 8 weeks of long sunny days, they could be good If not, you can have fried green tomatoes for brekky

I cant see that happening, who knows, but i thought it was better than the bin they were headed for.

What can you use green tomatoes for ?

Garlic & Onions can go in from Oct onwards, just make sure you plant winter hardy onions sets and not Spring planting ones! For garlic you just break the bulb into individual cloves and plant the biggest cloves separately. They will grow into bulbs & split into individual cloves when the weather gets cold.
