can i compost couchgrass or goosegrass have lots on both my plots?

Do NOT compost couchgrass. Every little bit of root will grow into a new plant.
Goosegrass can be composted as long as it hasn't got any seeds on. -

I don't think Monty has ever said to compost horsetail - I certainly wouldn't. By the way it is horsetail, marestail is an aquatic plant.

I compost ALL weeds, including horsetail, bindweed & couch grass.
However, it must be dead before you add it to the heap.
- dehydrate it on a dry (preferably hot, hahaha) path. Small amounts can be left on top of netting
- drown it in a covered bucket for several months
- double-bag it in black sacks, like leafmould, for several months
