Default Waxing or Waning?

I purchased some seeds off some dudes that sent me a little lunar calendar that shows when the moon is waxing or waning in 2008.

Trouble is, I have no idea what is what and why I should be bothered!

Ok so that is not strictly true, I know that some people plant by the moon, but what is the significance of waxing and waning to when you would plant what etc?

I was waxing earlier- but now I'm waning!! Time for bed for me!!

I look forward to hearing the replies to your post as it's something I desperately want to understand, but end up planting when I have time rather than at a specific point in the lunar cycle!

Planting by the moon confusing I agree.

A Waxing moon has the effect that the water level in the ground is rising while a waning moon the water level is falling. The same applies to the sap in the plants as well.

So, if you plant on a waxing moon then the soil will be in the best condition for the plants.

My book says that a Waxing moon is from the 12th - 24th this month. You could just look at the moon and plant anytime from the new moon to the full moon.

Gardeners Calendar - Garden planting guides covering vegetables will tell you day by day what you should or should not be planting. Thats the easiest way.

The only way you will be able to tell if it works is by doing very complicated trials. I give some thought to what the moon is doing but what I want is a crop not a scientific experiment. I don't po-po the whole idea. When I had a huge privet hedge if it was cut on a waxing moon then in 4 weeks it needed to be cut again, on a waning moon it would go 6 weeks before I was forced to get the hedge trimmer out again. It's someone elses problem now

It's been windy, but it hasn't been waning much.

To tell whether the moon is waxing or waning--if it's C for coming, it's not coming,it's going.(according to my dad!)
