  • Watering system

Sorry for the deluge of posts ;-)

I've been thinking about once I've constructed my beds - I'd like to look into the possibility of making a water feeding system - just some simple piping with holes drilled into it - I guess what, 10mm in diameter? If I can get a converter from the garden hose, I can connect it up to that, or even a waterbutt to do a gravity style feed system - anyone ever done this? Not sure if this is the correct terminology, but thought it'd be useful to do this to aid with the watering?

    Any thoughts/suggestions?

    Thanks

    H Chris,
Use the search facility as there is loads of info on "Soaker Hoses".....Hope it helps.

I'd invest in some proper drippers as these will control the flow rate much better than just piercing holes in a tube.

Plants don't need as much watering as most people think they do.

hi chris, dunno much bout making a water feeding system, but id say ten mm holes would be way to big, u would have a huge amount of water goin thru it in a very short space of time, gud luck wit it .

I've used gravity fed drippers in a GH and there are issues.... mostly to do with the need to check for blockages every day even if you have a filter on the input.... next year I'm trying soaker hose as it has the advantage of being able to vary the amount as a proportion of the whole watering given to each plant.... peppers need about a quarter the water of tomatos whereas a big melon or cucumber will need as much if not more... therefore put a piece osf saoaker on a spur from the main feed and let it run.....If I get the extra space to put up a decently sized polytunnel then I also plan a ten-day solar powered watering system for it to cope with my festival schedule.....
